Volkswagen T25 / T3 Devon Moonraker Camper Model History
Circa 1980 Devon introduced the T25 / T3 Volkswagen Devon Moonraker (similar interior design and layout to the earlier Type 2 Bay window Devon Moonraker). It had a side elevating “Double Top” pop top roof initially. On later models it was also possible to specify soft sided “Aerospace” elevating roof, solid sided “Spacetop” elevating roof or a “Hi Top” high top fixed roof option. The interior had cupboards along the side behind the drivers seat and the rear seat converted into a 3/4 width double bed. The engine options for the earlier versions used either the 1600 cc or the 2000 cc CU air cooled engines. Circa 1982 the Devon Moonraker was available with the new water cooled diesel engine option and circa 1983 the petrol air cooled engine options were replaced with petrol water cooled engine options. Note that during the production period of this model various changes were made to the specification including changes to upholstery materials, electrical control panels, furniture design etc. Where possible I will try and show examples of any updates and the approximate date of any change in the descriptions below. For the European market a Dutch company called Eurec built a camper called the Eurec Cassandra using Devon Moonraker parts in a left hand drive VW T25 /T3. By 1982 it was also possible to order single tone options at a reduced price. From 1983 price list the following 3 single tone colours were available as standard. Other colours could be ordered at extra cost. At this point I believe Devon stopped supplying duo-tone colour options. 4) Volkswagen T25 / T3 Devon Moonraker Camper Furniture Specification The Volkswagen T25 / T3 Devon Moonraker layout consisted of: Daytime Layout:

Initially side units were available in “Coffee and Cream” and by circa 1983 another option called “Harvest” was available:
1) Drivers seat. 2) Passenger seat.
3) Rear facing buddy seat / storage box.
4) Fold out extension dining seat.
5) Forward facing seat with storage underneath. Seat pulls out to make a large double bed (1842 mm x 1092 mm)
6) Centre leg table.
7) Wear and stain resistant “Flotex” carpet throughout. 8) Daytime storage area. Cushion is seated on a fibreglass plinth.
9) Stainless steel sink and drainer with switch controlled electric pump and tap.
10) Drop down work surface. 11) Optional Electrolux RM122 two way (gas / 12 volt) refrigerator. Fridge has a built in ice cube tray. Fitted as standard in later models.
12) Fellows 2 burner cooker with heat shield and grill.
Fold out flap in front of cooker provides extra work surface.
13) Deep storage locker. Contains portable coolbox when fridge is not specified as an optional extra. Locker has a false floor to reveal gas bottle stored beneath. 14) Wardrobe.
15) Built in 34 litre (7 1/2 gallon) freshwater tank. Tank can be filled by removing it from vehicle and wheeling it to water supply or in-situ. Electric water pump with switch.
Later models were fitted with a leisure battery and Devon electrical control panel equipped with fuses, switches for water pump, lights and fridge and a 12 volt outlet plug.

Other features include: Cupboard storage for two Camping Gas 907 cylinders. Opening sliding window on offside. Fluorescent lighting above kitchen and in the upper bed area. Courtesy lights. All the windows are fully curtained.
5) Options available at extra cost included: Porta Potti chemical flushing toilet. Electrolux RM122 Two way fridge (Gas / 12 volt). Fitted as standard in later models. Childs safety seat (Kangol Universal). Fire Extinguisher. Side Step. Cab Hammock Bunk.

Devon “Double Top” fibreglass roof runs full length of the vehicle. Gas filled struts assist with raising roof, hold the roof in place and take weight when lowering. Roof light with fly screen provides variable ventilation. Fully upholstered bed in roof (?? cm x ?? cm). Two solid based bed mattresses. Can be used as twin beds for children or pushed together to make double bed.
